Usually, the new iPhone won’t be released until September, at which point the software will be officially released. Apple, for instance, published iOS 15 on September 20, 2021. (or about a week after the iPhone 13 event). If Apple announces the iPhone 14 this September, iOS 16 would probably go live a week later. Apple has just mentioned “autumn,” without providing any other details.
How to test the public beta of iOS 16
On July 11, 2022, Apple released the iOS 16 public beta.

iPhone 8 and later are compatible with iOS 16
Apple makes an effort to maintain older iPhone devices even though it regularly releases significant iOS software updates. For instance, the 2015 iPhone 6S later run iOS 15 without any issues. The iPhone 8 and later will only be supported by iOS 16, though.
Notably, iOS 16 won’t work with the 2016 models of the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7, and iPhone SE.
Features of iOS 16

Lock Screen
In iOS 16, there are significant updates to the Lock Screen that enable considerably greater personalization. Users will have the ability to swipe between many Lock Screens and change the fonts, colors, photos, and widgets on each, similar to how Apple Watch faces work.
Notifications
In iOS 15, there was a significant adjustment to notifications; in iOS 16, there will be more enhancements. The Live Activities feature allows you to follow current events in real-time, such as an NBA game or an Uber journey, without unlocking your smartphone. They will not just show up from the bottom of the Lock Screen in an extended list format.
Focus
Users will be able to pick a different Focus for each Lock Screen thanks to the new software. Additionally, there will be focus filters that will prevent distracting items from appearing in commonplace programs like Mail and Safari based on the focus you choose.
Messages
The ability to modify a recently sent message and unsend a message, both of which must be done within 15 minutes, are two significant enhancements coming to Messages. You may mark any Message thread as Unread using the new software so you can return to it later.
In addition to Messages, iOS 16 will include SharePlay to the platform, making it possible to watch a movie or TV show straight in Messages while continuing to use the thread for conversation. SharePlay will no longer be limited to FaceTime.
Photos
With a feature named iCloud Share Photo Library, iOS 16’s Photos For Photos app will make sharing photos easier. This will make it possible for you to automatically and easily share images with family members, enabling everyone to participate.
You’ll be able to share everything or pick and select what to publish depending, for instance, on the start date or the subjects of the shot. You will be able to share pictures directly to Shared Library using a feature in the camera app.
In iOS 16, Mail will have better search capabilities that provide ideas before you type. A few new features will also be available, such as Undo Send, Schedule Send, and Follow Up.

Passkeys
Passkeys is a brand-new feature that will debut with iOS 16 and provide an end-to-end encrypted sign-in method. Passkeys are compatible with non-Apple devices and are believed to be stronger than all popular two-factor authentication methods.
Safari
Shared Tab Groups are a feature of iOS 16’s Safari For Safari that lets you share tabs and bookmarks, exchange messages, and launch FaceTime directly from Safari. You will be able to share everything in one location, whether you’re organizing a trip with friends or shopping online and wish to show your partner all you’ve found on different websites.
Online Text
In iOS 16, Live Text was extended to video, allowing you to stop on any text-containing frame to copy, translate, look up, and share. With the new software, Live Text also offers rapid actions that make it simpler to contact phones, view websites, convert currencies, and translate languages.
Dictation
With iOS 16, dictation is smarter and allows for both voice and touch input of text. The keyboard stays on the screen. Additionally, it will automatically punctuate, and you can even use emojis.
Apple Pay
Apple Pay Later, which enables you to spread the cost of an item you purchase with Apple Pay across four equal installments over the course of six weeks, is one of the Apple Pay changes arriving with iOS 16. Although it is unclear if the service will initially be available only in the US, you may use it everywhere Apple Pay is accepted.
Other Wallet upgrades allow you to track Apple Pay orders, securely exchange keys, and confirm your identity in applications.
Maps
Updates to Maps Maps include Multistop Routing, which allows for up to 15 stops, and the capacity to link Transit cards to Wallet so users may top them off without leaving the Maps app. It will also be simpler to determine the cost of a fare on the Transit routes.
Home
New categories for climate, lighting and security have been added to the Home app for iOS 16, along with a new Home tab and a multicamera view that rapidly displays all of your smart home cameras when you launch the app.
Shared Family
Family Sharing is receiving some upgrades with iOS 16. Kids’ accounts will be simpler to create, and kids’ gadgets will be simpler to set up.
